Who to tell when moving house

Who to inform when you move house: your council, DVLA, HM Revenue and Customs, the electoral register, your doctor and anyone who sends you a bill. This change of address checklist groups them by when to tell them: before moving day, on the day and in the first week.

Council tax when you move house

Council tax goes to the council for your new address: the district, borough or city council where there are two councils, and the one council everywhere else. Enter the new postcode to see which council that is.

Council tax goes to
Huntingdonshire
Schools, roads and social care
Cambridgeshire County Council
Power cuts
Call 105. It is free.

Example, for PE29 3BU. Council: ONS Postcode Directory, August 2026. ONS places a whole postcode in one council, one ward and one constituency, from a single point. A few postcodes cross a boundary, so an address at the edge can belong to the one next door. Your council tax bill or your poll card settles it for your address. See the full check for PE29 3BU
