An MSP can stand down or change party between elections. The Scottish Parliament's own site is the current word.
ONS places a whole postcode in one council, one ward and one constituency, from a single point. A few postcodes cross a boundary, so an address at the edge can belong to the one next door. Your council tax bill or your poll card settles it for your address.

Why does everyone in Scotland have eight MSPs?
Everyone in Scotland has one MSP for their Scottish Parliament constituency, elected by first past the post, and seven for the larger region their constituency is in, elected from party lists to make the Parliament as a whole more proportional.
All eight represent you, and you can contact any of them.
Which MSP should I contact?
For something that is about you or your street, many people start with their constituency MSP. Any of your regional MSPs can take it up too. Give your address, so they can see you live in the area they represent.
For council services such as bins, schools and planning applications, your local councillors are often the quicker route.
Is my MSP the same as my MP?
No. MSPs sit in the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood and deal with devolved matters such as health, education and justice. Your MP sits in the UK Parliament at Westminster, for a different, larger constituency.
What constituency am I in?Where do these names come from?
The constituency and region for each postcode come from National Records of Scotland's Scottish Postcode Directory (release 2026/2), which uses the boundaries in force since the election of 7 May 2026. The MSPs come from the Scottish Parliament's own open data, read on 27 October 2026.
