What does an MP do?

An MP represents one constituency in the House of Commons at Westminster. They can take up problems with UK government departments, such as the benefits system, immigration and HM Revenue and Customs. For council services such as bins, schools and planning, your councillors are often the quicker route.

Is my MP the same as my MSP or Member of the Senedd?

No. In Scotland you also have MSPs at Holyrood, and in Wales Members of the Senedd. The answer above gives a Scottish postcode's Scottish Parliament constituency and a Welsh postcode's Senedd constituency as well. The constituency comes from the ONS Postcode Directory, August 2026.

What constituency am I in? The parliamentary constituency for a postcode, with its council and ward. Who is my local councillor? The councillors elected for your ward, and how to contact them. Who is my MSP? Your constituency MSP and your seven regional MSPs, for a Scottish postcode.
