How we use it

Domestic meters only. DESNZ leaves a postcode out when it has fewer than 5 meters of a kind, or when its two largest meters use more than 90% of its energy, so a postcode with few homes, or none on mains gas, has no figure. Meters using under 100 kWh a year are not counted. Electricity is not weather corrected; gas is, over a year running from mid-May. Some small businesses on a domestic-sized gas meter are counted as homes, as DESNZ says. A district's figure is DESNZ's own, for every meter in it. Read again each month, and replaced when DESNZ publishes the next year's, each December.
