How we use it

Democracy Club, a non-profit, records the candidates and results of every local election in the UK since 2016 and every by-election since 2017. For each ward we show the people elected at its most recent elections, enough to fill its seats as those elections show them (all at once, or by thirds or halves), and anyone elected at a by-election since. That is 19,372 people in 8,826 wards. Only the name, the party they stood for and the day are kept; the records hold more, such as email addresses and statements, and none of it is read. An election result does not change, but a councillor can stand down or change party before the next one, and when a by-election has filled a seat the records do not say whose, so the page says how many of the people named no longer sit rather than guessing which. Each council’s own list, from GOV.UK’s links to council services, is linked as the current one. County councillors, who are elected for county divisions, are not shown: we do not hold which division a postcode is in.
